     1  How do I move Proview Navigator from one computer to another?
         Or, My Computer hard disk has crashed and I have lost Proview

To move Proview from one computer to another, simply follow these steps:-
(This method is free of charges.)

On the new PC, create a C:\PROVIEWN directory.

From the old PC, copy the following files to C:\PROVIEWN on the new PC
PROVIEW.XXX
INDEX.XXX
PVTALKW.INI
(where XXX is your user code)
(PVTALKW.INI may be found in \Windows directory. Use FIND function)

Connect to www.proview.com.au
Click on "Client area" and download the "Proview Navigator" upgrade.

Install Proview Navigator (following instructions as shown).

Install to C:\PROVIEWN

Your Proview software is now successfully transferred.
Do not attempt to log onto Proview with the old computer.

If you are unable to transfer the files in no 2 above, then;
Install your original Proview system from CD-Rom, or from original PRONAV.EXE file that you downloaded.
Then contact Proview and request a rebuilt chart list to be transmitted.

However if you have no CD-Rom and no original PRONAV.EXE then;
Create a PROVIEWN folder, then create a dummy file called PROVIEW.XXX (where XXX is your code) in the C:\PROVIEWN folder.
You can create this file using Notepad or any other text editor.
Then follow steps 3-6. Contact Proview via email & request a rebuilt chart listing.

If you are unable to create a dummy file (as above);
Then follow steps 1, 3-6. Ignore any error messages regarding missing files.
Contact Proview via email, and request a rebuilt chart listing.

Alternatively, rather than following the procedures above, you may order a rebuilt system on CD Rom, or to be downloaded via the internet - Fee $55

4.  I'm having some difficulty installing Proview Navigator Demo on my machine.   It says that there is a conflict with another program, what should I do?

Unfortunately Microsoft introduced file conflicts with Office 97 and Proview Navigator setup. You may see a message such as "Sharing Violation" or "Program Conflict" or words to that effect. To solve this problem, close the Office 97 toolbar if is running. After this has been done, if running Windows 95, press CTRL-ALT-DEL and click on the Program OSA from the list, then click "End Task". If the file "FINDFAST" also appears in this list, end it also by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL again, selecting it from the list and clicking "End Task". If you are running Windows NT, you can bring up the Task Manager to end OSA and FindFast. If you still experience conflict problems and you have Windows 95, try restarting your computer while holding down the shift key to start Windows 95 in "Safe Mode", then retry the installation.

During Installation you get the following error message.

Invalid command line parameter. Unable to continue. Setup was not completed successfully. Runtime Error 5. Invalid procedure or argument.

SOLUTION - Click on START FIND and search for SETUP1.EXE. If you find this file rename it SETUP1.BUG.
This file has been left over from an incorrect installation of another program.

5. I have Installed Proview but I cannot connect via the Internet.

Or I cannot get any extra charts via the Proview Internet connection - (the Blue World Icon)

These messages may indicate that your internet provider requires a PROXY setting.
If you see messages such as "error you may not be connected to the internet" or "No CMD file"

Solution - Exit Proview, now start your Internet Connection, then Start Proview, Click once on the Telephone, click "Chart Services via HTTP"

If still does not work, you may require a Proxy setting. Some examples are ;

·  proxy.chariot.net.au PORT 8080

·  proxy.NRG.com.au PORT 8080

·  proxy.viper.net.au PORT 21

·  proxy.iprimus.com.au PORT 8080

·  proxy.syd.futurewweb.com.au PORT 8080

·  proxy.tpg.com.au PORT 80

You can find the appropriate proxy and Port settings on your ISP web site.

You can also find the Proxy & Port settings in your browser, and copy these to the Proview Downloader Options

Internet Explorer 3.0- Click on View then Options then Connection if a proxy is used its name will be listed here.

Internet Explorer 4.01 - Click View then Internet Options then Connection

Internet Explorer 5 - Click on Tools then Internet Options then Connection

Netscape 3.0 - Click on Options then Network Preferences then click on Proxies

Netscape 4.5 - Click on Edit then Preferences then Advanced then Proxies

If your ISP requires proxy settings (or Firewall settings) then they should be entered in the following places.

a. On the Proview charting program, click on the yellow Cog Icon (the Settings Icon)

Now click on the Internet Tab, and set the HTTP proxy setting in the place provided.

b. Start the downloader program, ie Click once on the Telephone icon.

Now Click on Options, click on FTP Settings and enter the proxy in the box supplied.

Check HTTP settings.

6. My Printer will not Print Proview charts.

The most likely cause is an incorrectly installed Print Driver.
Install your Printer driver correctly. Proview uses a standard Microsoft Print call routine.

If still won't print, then you may try some of the following Windows Printer settings.
Solution 1. Click on the Chart settings Icon - (The Yellow Gear)
Click on Chart Settings Page 2
Click on Font "Change" button
Now select a different font - default is MS San Serif
Or try - Times New Roman etc
Click "Save Current"
Now try Printing again.
If still not working try rebooting computer, then try printing.

Solution 2. On a Proview chart ;
Click on the Printer Icon
Select "Force Print" or "Print as BMP"
Now try printing a chart.

If still will not print then ;...this is a printer memory problem.
Solution 3. On a Proview chart;
Click FILE \ PRINT SETUP
Select PROPERTIES
Set Graphic Resolution to 150 or 75 dots
Click OK
Now try Printing a chart.

Solution 4. Click on Start Button
Click Settings
Click Printers
Select your Printer -(click on it)
Click File
Click Properties
Click Graphics
Set Resolution to 150 or 75 dots
Set Dithering to Coarse (if available)
Click OK
Now try printing a chart.

Solution 5. On a Proview chart;
press CTRL SHIFT ALT F3 keys all together.
This function will try to override any other settings on your computer or printer.

7. I have installed another software package, and now I get the message: "Your Program is making an Invalid Dynamic Link Call to a DLL file"

Reboot your computer in DOS mode. Move the file QPRO.DLL to the appropriate directory. This file should not be stored in \WINDOWS or \WINDOWS\SYSTEM. Do not move or over write the copy of QPRO.DLL stored in \PROVIEWN. This problem has been permanently fixed in versions of Navigator 3.3.3 or later.

8. When I click on PROCHART, it says it cannot run a 16 bits based program. Or it says “WOWEXEC error, winstub16 system running out of resources” or similar message

You have to copy AUTOEXEC.NT from C:\WINDOWS\REPAIR directory to your windows\system32 directory.  Please follow the steps below if you are unsure of how to do that.

 1. Click Start, click Run, type C:\windows\repair, and then click OK.

2. Right-click the AUTOEXEC.NT file, and then click Copy.

3. Click Start, click Run, type %windir%\system32, and then click OK.

4. In the System32 folder, press Ctrl + V to paste the Autoexec.nt file in this folder.
